Why is my flame flickering or dwindling?

It's not uncommon to encounter a bit of a hiccup with wood wicks, particularly when they start flicking, shrinking, or even extinguishing prematurely. More often than not, this can be attributed to a slight imperfection within the wood itself. Remember, each wood wick is unique, and these minor "glitches" aren't always detectable visually. Sometimes, coaxing a wood wick to life requires a little patience. Don't be discouraged if you need to relight it a few times. In some instances, it might take several attempts before the wick establishes a consistent and healthy burn, but once it does, it should perform beautifully!

 

Why is my candle bumpy and rough at the top after burning?

Those little bumps and imperfections you might see on your soy wax candle? Don't worry; it's a good sign! A bumpy surface is a common characteristic of 100% soy wax. Sometimes your candle will dry smooth, other times with a slightly uneven texture – it's simply the nature of the wax. The great news is that these surface variations are purely cosmetic and won't impact how your candle burns or smells. So, embrace the bumps as a mark of truly natural soy wax!

 

How can I stop my candle from tunelling?

Candle tunneling, that frustrating phenomenon where your candle burns down the center, leaving a ring of unused wax, is a common issue that can prevent you from fully enjoying your favorite scents. This happens when the candle is extinguished before the entire top layer of wax has melted into a liquid pool. By stopping the burn prematurely, you're essentially setting the stage for future tunneling, as the candle will continue to burn down the existing path of least resistance. To avoid this, and to maximize the life and fragrance throw of your candle, always ensure you burn it long enough for the entire surface to become liquid before blowing it out. This allows the wax to melt evenly, setting the stage for a consistent and fulfilling burn in the future.

 

I've tunnelled my candle! What can I do now?

Don't stress! There's a simple fix. All you need to do is create a foil wrap around the sides and top of the candle tin, making sure to poke a hole for the wick to breathe and be lit. This essentially creates a mini-oven, trapping heat and encouraging the stubborn edges to melt evenly. This is a great way to salvage a candle that's started burning down the middle. Crucially, remember that prevention is key! On the first burn, always ensure you let your candle burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edge of the container.

 

Help! My candle looks like it's sweating?!

Seeing small beads or a slight oil buildup on your candle's surface? Don't worry; your candle might just be "sweating." This phenomenon is common, especially in 100% soy wax candles, and is a telltale sign of a natural product. Soy wax is quite sensitive to temperature fluctuations, and when exposed to extremes, the natural oils within the wax can separate, forming these little pools on top. Rest assured that this sweating won't impact the candle's performance or scent throw. Simply wipe away the excess oil with a tissue, and you're good to go! To minimize future sweating, try to keep your candles away from drafts, direct sunlight, and rooms that experience significant temperature swings.

 

I’d love to reuse my tins! How do I clean the tin jars?

That's fantastic! Upcycling candle tins is a wonderfully sustainable practice. WIXS's method for cleaning them is spot-on. Melting the remaining wax in simmering water is an efficient way to remove the bulk of it. Adding a small amount of water to harden the remaining wax into a solid block makes it much easier to handle and discard. Finally, washing with soap and water ensures a clean surface for whatever new purpose the tin will serve. And the hairdryer trick for label removal? Genius! It avoids harsh chemicals and leaves the tin looking pristine, ready for its upcycled life.

 

How do I know if my order is confirmed?

Once your purchase is completed, you will receive an order confirmation email at the address you provided during checkout. 

 

Do you ship internationally?

We do not ship internationally at this time.

 

How long will it take until I receive my order?

We strive to ship orders within 1 business day whenever possible, but as a small business, we ask that you allow up to 4 -7 business days for shipping. For custom orders, please allow 1 to 2 weeks before shipping.

During July and August orders will ship Monday-Wednesday to try to avoid packages being left sitting in hot transit cars for too long.

Please also keep an eye on your tracking number so you can get your packages from your mailbox as soon as possible after they are delivered.

Even with these changes, candles may arrive with some "sweating" on top of the candle. This is normal but we recommend that you let your candle come to room temperature before lighting.

When it comes time to dispose of your container simply clean it out and toss it into your regular recycling bin alongside cans. This ease of recycling is a significant advantage, especially for those looking to minimize their environmental footprint.

LESS PACKAGING: When compared to traditional glass, metals such as aluminum and tin are significantly lighter, which means that shipping and handling become more efficient.  Additionally, the durability of metal ensures that the candles remain secure and intact during transit, minimizing the risk of breakage that glass containers often face. As a result, we can use less packaging material overall, leading to a more environmentally friendly approach that benefits everyone. 

BUILT IN SNUFFER: Using the lid to snuff out your candle is indeed a more effective method than blowing it out, as it minimizes smoke production and contains any splattering of hot wax, ensuring a cleaner and safer experience. Moreover, this method can help preserve the longevity of the candle and maintain its fragrance for future use.
